water heater repairs and service

You get home a long day at work and just want to take a nice warm bath. Much to your consternation the water just won't heat up. It's time to call in the professionals. The gas pilot flame is lit but still no hot water. Malcolm Rooter specializes in water heater repairs and services.

There are a number of common issues we regularly run into with a storage water heater. If there is no hot water the first thing you want to check is if the burner is lit. If so call us for further assistance. Another common complaint is inadequate hot water. Again first check the burner. A natural gas flame should be a bright blue with just a tinge of yellow on the tip of the flame. A propane flame should have a bluish green flame with a tinge of yellow at the tip. The most frequent cause of inadequate hot water is either the tank is being over taxed or improper installation. With poor installation the hot and cold water lines can cross leading to hot water issues.

Rust color water is another issue that we frequently run into. This is almost always a sign that it is time to replace the anode rod. An anode rod is an aluminum rod placed in the water heater tank to protect it from corrosion. Rotten egg smell emanating from the water heater is also often linked to the sacrificial anode rod. The smell is usually caused by the decaying of the rod and will go away after the rod is replaced and the tank is flushed.

Rumbling or noises are a clear sign that it is time to service your water heater. Sediment build up on the bottom of the tank is causing overheating and boiling the water. This should be resolved by flushing the tank. Of course regular flushing of the tank is recommended for optimizing the longevity of the appliance.
